Q. Where do I find images I can use for publication?

I’m working on a scientific manuscript on cochlear implants that I intend to submit for publication. I would like to add an image or illustration of a cochlear implant to the paper but do not know how to obtain such an image. Are there databases of “free” images that I can use/publish without getting permission from the author? Do we have access to anything through NYMC library? Alternatively, are there databases with images and artist contact information to request permission? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Several of the library's resources provide images that you can use in presentations but not for publication. Copyrighted images usually require paying a royalty fee. I would suggest looking for something in the public domain. Here are
