Q. Why won't EndNote open after install (PC) ?

If you are not the administrator of your computer (e.g. it is a work computer), please see this FAQ for more information.

If you have closed all Office programs but are still getting errors that the Installation wizard cannot continue because Microsoft Office products are running:

You will need to use the Task Manager to ensure that the programs are not still running processes in the background:

1. Press CTRL + ALT + Delete and choose Task Manager.
2. Go to the Processes tab 
3. Scroll down to Background Processes
4. Locate any programs running that have Microsoft Office in the title (particularly Word, PowerPoint and Outlook programs)
5. Highlight the program and choose the End task button at the bottom.
6. Retry the EndNote installation process

EndNote Installed but not opening:

After you have completed the install, you can locate the EndNote app, but when you select it, it will not open.

1. Press CTRL + ALT + Delete and choose Task Manager.
2. Go to the Processes tab 
3. Scroll down to Background Processes
4. Locate any programs running that have EndNote in the title 
5. Highlight the program and choose the End task button at the bottom.
6. Retry opening EndNote.
