Yes, the EndNote "Cite While You Write" (CWYW) plugin does work with Google Docs, but requires EndNote 2025 or 21 and an EndNote Web account.

Please note that you must have a Google Account and an EndNote Online account to use the CWYW tool in Google Docs. In Google Docs.

Here is a short video with instructions on its installation and use. 

  1. In your Google Docs: go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons and search for "EndNote Cite While You Write" to install it. 
  2. Click on Endnote CWYW and click install
  3. Sign into your Google Account and allow CWYW to access.
  4. Back In your Google Docs, open the EN CWYW extension from the top tab where it says Extensions.
  5. A new EN CWYW side bar wiill appear on the right asking you to sign into your EndNote Web account. 
    1. If you don't have an ENO account, from within the EndNote Desktop program, click on Library and then Sync.
    2. Follow the instructions to sign up for an account for the online version. 
  6. Once signed in you will see on the right the ability to synchronise your My References to proceed.
  7. Here you can select an individual reference and then click on Insert Citations. 
  8. Click on Update Citations.
  9. For changing citation styles, click on the three vertical buttons in the top right of the CWYW side bar.
  10. Click on the citation style of your choice and then click on Apply Style.
